Further email to RNZ
Tēnā koutou katoa,
Further to my complaint this afternoon, I want to make two additional points:
(1) The parents were represented by Resist Gender Education, who shopped the story around. RGE are opposed to trans students having any human rights protections relating to their gender identity whatsoever. They are a highly motivated but small group. Their involvement as advocates for the parents and the nature of the group must be included in the article. I notice that last week, in a story about a couple in Auckland, you included the name of their advocate. Why the differential treatment here? It’s a huge omission.
(2) We are compiling a complaint to the Human Rights Commission, which we will submit tomorrow. You have violated V’s mana, and we will use the Ellis finding re: tikanga at the Supreme Court to get justice for V via the Human Rights Act.
Once again, I reiterate that you have been unduly influenced by the parents who are being manipulated by one of NZ’s most bigoted anti-trans activists - Fern Hickson.
Cisgender people like yourselves do not get to decide trans people's identities in life or death, and if the story is not amended, we will see you all at mediation at the HRC.
Ngā mihi nui,
Paul Thistoll
